Palazzi 2015
2015 is one of the great vintages of Tenuta di Trinoro. The hot weather came over our vineyards only during the first months: already at the beginning of August, the average temperatures fell very fast, and we had a cool, even cold, ripening period until November.
With intermittent rains and long drying periods in between, we were able to harvest exceptional merlot from vineyards growing on different soils and different altitudes across the property. This vintage, the selection of merlot that went into the mix for Palazzi was from about two hectares of vines from the vineyards of Tenaglia Est and Strada Vecchia.

This pure expression of Merlot just pushes all the right gustatory buttons in this warm and exuberant vintage. The bouquet is seamless and generous, yet it is also built tight and heavy like a tank. It exerts power and elegance with effortless abandon. The bouquet peels back to reveal deep layers of black fruit, prune, spice, leather and cured tobacco. The mouthfeel is still a bit raw and astringent, but the quality of the tannins is evident nonetheless. The wine really requires another 5 years or so of bottle aging.”
International Wine Report, 96 points: “The 2015 Palazzi is a simply exceptional wine from Tenuta di Trinoro. This 100% Merlot was sourced from about two hectares of vines in the vineyards of Tenaglia Est and Strada Vecchia and spent 8 months in new French oak barrels; 11 months in cement tanks before bottling. The result is a simply fascinating wine which begins to slowly release gorgeous aromas of ripe blackberries, fresh red currants and dark cherries, which are nuanced by spring florals with hints of fresh mushroom, licorice and forest herbs. On the palate this possesses a full body with outstanding overall structure and concentration. It continues to impress with its remarkable balance and focus, as fresh red and black fruits combine with dark chocolate and earth flavors to linger on the finish. The purity is fruit is striking, as this seems to improve with each second in the glass. Powerful, classy and sophisticated, this is one of the finest Merlot’s being made in Italy.”
