Campo di Tenaglia 2015
The wine of Campo di Tenaglia is usually dark and spicy, reminiscent of licorice. This year was a good one, cool and even ripening, so the wine is especially soft and gentle in its texture. This is the second year we’ve produced this wine.
REVIEWS
Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate, 95 points: “Here is a dark, moody and penetrating wine. The 2015 Campo di Tenaglia is one of three wines in Andrea Franchetti’s new line of single-vineyard Cabernet Francs. Although the texture here is enormously rich and opulent, this is perhaps the softest and most supple of the three expressions. It is also the most defined by its mineral identity. The bouquet reveals distinctive characteristics of flint, crushed mineral and dry chalk. This adds to the dryness and the overall intensity of the wine. In the mouth, however, it shows savory and rich succulence. This wine really speaks to my tastes.”
Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 95 points: “Strikes a balance between ripe black cherry, blackberry, spice and coffee aromas and flavors. Firm, but also juicy and fresh on the long, fruit-filled aftertaste. Ends with flourishes of licorice, iron and spice. Cabernet Franc. Best from 2021 through 2035.”
Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media, 92 points: “The 2015 Campo di Tenaglia is dark, suave and enveloping, with soft contours and plenty of up-front appeal. Ripe dark cherry, plum, licorice, tobacco, grilled herbs, lavender and new leather all flesh out in the glass. This is another soft, approachable 2015 from Andrea Franchetti. Here, too, the heat of the growing season has blurred a measure of site expression.”
