Petit Sancaba 2024
Petit Sancaba is the second wine of the estate, made with grapes from the youngest pinot noir vineyard planted in 2019 and with second pick grapes from the remaining vineyards. Fermentation took place with indigenous yeasts in steel vats, with 25% whole cluster grapes, without punch downs and only light pump overs aimed at keeping extraction at a minimum. The quick elevage of about 6 months took place in a cement vat. The result is a wine with low 13.0% abv, pale color, freshness, pronounced fruitiness, dynamic sip and great aromatic intensity, offering immediate enjoyment.
A deceptive, two-faced vintage, with a cool and damp spring and early summer, followed by a scorching and dry August, which required careful monitoring of the grapes’ ripening process. The abundant spring rains continued into early July, although less intensely than in 2023, requiring careful phytosanitary management albeit in a less complicated manner with respect to the previous year and resulting in an overall optimal control of grape health. The mild and cool weather trend was abruptly interrupted in August, with temperatures peaking at 37-40°C, causing a sudden acceleration in the ripening of the grapes, which had until then progressed slowly and steadily. The unexpected and excessive heat in August overturned expectations of a cool and delicate vintage, resulting in wines with a more robust, fully ripe profile and intense fruity aromas.
