Contrada C 2022
ABOUT THE VINTAGE
Contrada Chiappemacine is a small district, located at 550m a.s.l ., the lowest of the five. This vineyard produces a full and round wine because of the sandstone soil that is found at the limits of the lava flows. The breezes of the day and a few roots that reach up to the limestone give a full, frustrating and with body wine. We have 1,3 Ha of vineyard in this Contrada.
As soon as the 2021 harvest was over at the end of October, we witnessed a torrential rain that caused a flood, especially in the Randazzo area. Between the end of November and the end of December we saw more rain in all our vineyards, cold temperatures and snow at altitudes of 1.200/1.500 meters a.s.l. A great start to winter that created good water reserves in the soil.
2022 started off with rather cold temperatures. Budbreak was regular, and the spring rains further replenished our water reserves. This fact, combined with the very warm temperatures in early summer, contributed to a rapid development of the canopy.
Chiappemacine, the lowest of Passopisciaro contrade, is one of the area that suffered more for the drought during summer.
Manual harvest took place on October 5th.
REVIEWS
Vinous, 93-95 points:”The 2022 Contrada Chiappemacine, tasted from barrel, is rosy and perfumed with hints of exotic spice, giving way to notes of dried strawberry. This is supple and round, quite elegant in feel, with crisp minerality and crunchy wild berry fruits. There’s an abundance of energy within, along with a balance of primary concentration. The 2022 tapers off long, structured and fresh. The potential here is very high. Contrada Chiappemacine blends volcanic soils at higher elevations with limestone in the lower parts. This is an understated beauty.”
