Passobianco 2017


The heatwaves that hit the mainland of Italy also came to Etna. With no drops in temperature that usually brighten the nights, the long, hot summer brought about quite advanced maturation of the Chardonnay grapes. We had to add a little water to the vines to help them through. We picked almost a month earlier than usual, from the 13th to the 30th of August. A rich and lush body signal the heat of the vintage, yet it is brightened by its characteristic minerality and acidity.


Ian D’Agata, Vinous Media, 90 points: “Bright straw-gold. Aromas of butter, hazelnuts, orange and pineapple. Fresh and juicy on entry, then more viscous and broad, with similar flavors to the aromas. Closes long and ripe but vibrant. 100% Chardonnay grown in four hectares in the Guardiola cru between 800 and 1000 meters above sea level.”
